Lullubee Craft Kits: Felted Gnomes

I just got back from a weekend away and it was wonderful!!!  I spent some time communing with trees and playing in snow.  A much-needed escape.

As part of my time away, I tried out a new monthly craft kit from Lullubee.  I thought I'd try out one box to see how I liked it.  This month's kit had everything you needed to make some felted gnomes plus an extra crafting tool.

If you are a regular reader, you know I am sucker for kit clubs.  This one is a little more crafty and a little less high fashion than FOR THE MAKERS.  But it is also pricier at $34 per month. They also have a kid's version of the club for $29 a month. I have ordered one for Noodlebug but we haven't gotten it yet.

The supplies in the box were great and there was enough stuff for me to make three gnomes with materials left over. The kit comes with full-color instruction sheets that show you the process step by step. My main complaint is that although the sheets show you what to do for each step, they don't show you HOW to do it.  This was my first needle-felting attempt and I needed more explanation.  Still, they turned out okay.

For a first attempt, I think they're pretty good.  I have really been into gnomes lately. And hedgehogs. I don't know why.

I'd like to try another kit by Lullubee even though they are expensive. I probably never would have tried something like this without the kit and I had a lot of fun doing it.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I made this valentine for my sweetie.  The quotation is from "Much Ado About Nothing" and was part of my wedding vows.

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend. I'm heading to the mountains and hoping to find some snow for Noodlebug.

Much love to all of you!!!

Weeks Five and Six--Life Book 2013

My gameboard of life for Week Five:

I'm not entirely happy with this one.  It needs something.  Maybe a little more distressing or doodling? I'm not sure. There are game cards in the pocket in the corner.  I used some of Shelly Massey's free clipart for the sweet steampunk owl gamepiece.

My week six piece:

So, this is a self-portrait of me with my butterfly totem.  "Bloom" is my word for 2013 so you will see it in a lot of my work. It is a reminder to myself to "bloom where you are planted" and to stop complaining about life.  I can no longer wait for various things to happen in order to bloom. I need to bloom now! Since I love children's books, I added a little hungry caterpillar on my skirt. Right now, I am a hungry caterpillar. Eating and eating and eating to fill that empty spot.  But, someday, I will be a butterfly.  It makes me think of Mindy Gledhill's lovely lyrics:

"You're a butterfly held captive
Small and safe in your cocoon.
Go on you can take your time
Time is said to heal all wounds."

I'm keeping up with Life Book so far.  Can't wait to see what next week's class will bring!!!

Pin and Do: Valentine Shirt for Boys

I saw this adorable t-shirt on Pinterest.  I love the spin on the Jolly Roger skull and crossbones for Valentine's Day. And the applique' is so sweet!

At $25, I just couldn't swing it.  So....

I decided to do a similar look using fabric paint and a freezer paper stencil.  Here is the finished result:

(sorry the light is so bad in this photo!)

Cheap and quick.  Not as cute as the appliqued original but it only cost me about $5 and took less than thirty minutes to do!

If you want the really nice version, follow the link under the top photo to the WeThreeBees Etsy shop.
