A Break on the Horizon!

I had an absolutely lovely shower on Sunday. My friend Laura really outdid herself! We had the shower at a local tea room and Laura made sure that every little detail reflected the colors of green and yellow which are the colors we are using in the baby's room. I had such a good time!

My official last day of work will be Friday, May 9. Almost there! I'm hoping I will have a week or two to rest before baby arrives. Maybe I'll even get some knitting and scrapping done! I checked out a book from the library called KNITTING FOR TWO that has some great baby patterns in it that I would love to try. After baby is born, I will have maternity leave until September 2. I know it will be hard to return to work but I am grateful for the time I will have off.

My birthday is May 25 and I'm still hoping for a sewing machine. Or a record player. I may end up getting a baby that day instead!!!

Weekend Plans

Well, the weekend is almost here and it will be a full one for me!

I am running a booth for the Junior League at my local parade/festival tomorrow. It should be a fun time. Plus, I can do the whole thing sitting which is a definite plus at this point. On Sunday, my friend Laura is hosting a baby shower for me at a local tea room. I'm so excited! It will be great getting my friends together for tea and baby talk. I planned ahead and bought some thank you cards from Angelina's Cards and Paper Boutique and they are so adorable! Check them out here. I have always been a firm believer in the importance of a handwritten thank-you note.

My mom will be in town until Tuesday so she and I may need to make a trip to Babies R Us before she goes. I have already gotten a couple of gift cards and can't wait to use them. My husband wants me to be sure and buy the "machine that hermetically seals the dirty diapers." That seems to be a very important item on his list!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend wherever you are!

Delinquent Blogger

Hello my friends! I hope you are all doing well. Things have been busy around here lately! I volunteer with several organizations and I'm trying to get all my volunteer work finished up in preparation for baby's arrival. Tying up loose ends and getting my board position ready to pass on to the next person. It seems like I go to a meeting almost every day! And I'm still working full-time. Right now, I'm planning on quitting work on May 16 but I may not make it that long. I feel like I need some rest to prepare for the Big Event! And there is still some scrapbooking and knitting I need to get to! If only I had more energy!

Anyway, I hope you are all well. Even when I don't post, I still check your blogs every single day!!!

Update on Griffin Family

Some of you may remember when I blogged about a local family that was involved in a car accident back in late January. Their car was hit by a drunk driver and the mother was killed. The two girls are now fine and back at school but the father is STILL in the hospital. He has undergone so many surgeries and had so many setbacks. Right now, it appears his legs will not be able to bear any weight for at least another six weeks. Then, he will begin the long arduous process of beginning to walk again. In spite of this, we are lucky he is still with us. It was very touch and go and it is so wonderful the doctors have managed to save his legs and his arm.

I was so happy to get an update on this family today. They have been through so much and still haven't had a chance to properly grieve for their wife and mother. It is an important reminder for me about how blessed I am in my life. I have my health, my family, my friends, my husband. I have a roof over my head, a job and plenty of food to eat. I have a baby on the way. So many blessings. I must never ever take it all for granted.

Creative Family

I saw this book on Charlotte Lyons' blog and it seems like it might answer some of my concerns in my previous post. This book offers ideas on creative play and activities that nurture family connections. The reviews on Amazon look really good so I might have to buy this one. Of course, it will have to wait until baby is a little older!

Back in Action

Hello Friends!

I'm feeling much better and I'm back at work. Trying to take it easy. Only about seven weeks left!!!

I have appointed my friend Gary as my "in case of emergency" guest blogger to keep you up to date of any changes.

I am one of those people who finds it really hard to rest and sit still. I have been trying to do lots of reading and watching movies but sometimes I get cabin fever! I just feel like there is so much I need to do to get ready for baby's arrival!

We watched "Dan in Real Life" a few days ago which was really sweet. I think Steve Carrell is best when he does really subtle comedic roles like this one. One thing that really struck me about the movie is all the "together time" this family has. They do things like have men vs. women crossword puzzle challenges, early morning aerobics in the front yard and Charades tournaments in the evening. No one turned on the tv or played video games. I thought that was so great! I know it's not always possible but I would like to be the kind of parents who really encourage creative play and don't use the television as a babysitter. We are really going to try and limit baby's exposure to television for at least the first two years. I hope we will eventually become the kind of family that has lots and lots of "together time!"
