Making a (Birthday) List

At Christmas, I decided to put together a few wish lists for my family and it worked like a charm.  My husband had a long list of items to choose from and I was still surprised because I didn't know which ones he would choose.

Well, my birthday is right around the corner and I have updated my two wish lists.

What I'm Making *UPDATED*

Some friends of mine asked me to make them some yellow rose corsages for a special event.  I was going to do some corsages in the "Beth"-style but I couldn't afford to buy a bunch of ribbon and materials.  I saw this Little Birdie Secrets tutorial and realized I already had all the materials on hand.  I made four of them and will be posting photos later.  These would be great for Mother's Day. The hardest part was pushing the pin through the flower to make a hole for the floral wire.  I highly recommend that you watch the video tutorial on flower-making that accompanies this tutorial.

BABIES Movie

I don't normally post content like this but I have been wanting to see this movie ever since I saw the trailer.

This documentary simultaneously follows the lives of four babies around the world: Mongolia, the United States, Namibia and Japan. By capturing the first year of these babies' lives, we begin to see the beauty of our differences and how similar all of our lives really are.

The movie is also partnering with MARCH OF DIMES which I think is wonderful.  Many of your know of March of Dimes as an organization that fought polio.  I can remember my mother going door to door collecting for this group when I was four years old. Now, MARCH OF DIMES is working to make sure that women achieve healthy, full-term pregnancies.   In conjunction with the movie, if you can text BABIES to 20222 to make a $5 donation.

I may have to take Noodlebug to see this one!!!

Something Personal

Hello Friends!

I have been a member of the Junior League for eight years. It has provided me with so many great opportunities to serve my community. Yesterday, I got to travel to Sacramento with a bunch of women from Junior Leagues all over California to visit with our legislators.  It was so inspiring!

Because of the work of these Junior League women and Assemblymember Pedro Nava, a resolution was passed last Thursday to make the month of May Perinatal Depression Awareness Month in California.  It is such an important issue and one that has affected me personally.   If Perinatal Depression doesn't sound familiar, it is also known as Post-Partum Depression.

I often get jaded about our political system but it was personally inspiring to me to see all of these people come together and get something really important accomplished. I can't wait to see what we do next!

(I took some photos of my most recent swap and promise to post them soon!)

Celebrating Mom

My birthday is at the end of May but ever since I became a mom I think I look forward to Mother's Day more than my birthday.  I feel so completely honored and blessed to be a mother. I was really excited to see that one of my very favorite blogs, MADE, is celebrating Moms right now.  I"m sure there will be lots of great tutorials and other fun girly things.  I can't wait!!!

Petite Inspiration and More

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! Ours was very...wet!  Saturday was beautiful weather and my husband and I put together Noodlebug's new sandbox while he took a nap. I had visions of a beautiful Easter day where he could play in the new sandbox after church and brunch.  Well, there was a torrential downpour all day and I spent the afternoon looking for Noah out the window.

I still need to take photos of my Easter Peeps garland, the microfleece lamb and the little tie shirt I made Noodlebug. Oh and my 39 Squares Sampler!!!!  Until then, here is a photo of the loot I sent my swap partners for the Petite Inspiration Swap. I borrowed it from one of my partners.

My friend Kim has a wonderful guest room at her house that is filled with nests and birds and birdhouses and it made me realize how I am really into nests and birds lately. Maybe it's the stage of life that I am in.

Have a great day!

Off to Celebrate Easter (UPDATED!)

Hello Friends!

I am frantically trying to finish my Easter projects! I have five bunnies left to sew on my PEEPS garland and I cut out the pieces to make a Lamb pillow last night.  I hope to finish it all tonight but I may be distracted by the return of "FRINGE" on tv.

I have a special request for all of you crafty divas out there. I am taking over the playgroup Sunday school class at my church for ages 0-2 and I need your help!  I need some simple, safe and easy craft ideas to do with our littlest church members. If you have ideas, please send them my way. Also, ideas for activities are welcome.

Speaking of church, I am hoping the rain will abate so that we will have a lovely day for Easter services.  Easter is such a wonderful time for me.  I love attending church and feeling all the hope that comes from the Resurrection filling me up as I look out the window at the beauty of God's Spring.   I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed Easter.

Noodlebug on the egg hunt!

UPDATE:  I finished the garland and the lamb pillow last night. The lamb pillow took about half an hour start to finish and it looks really cute. Noodlebug saw the pieces laying on the table and shouted "Lamb!" I was going to wait to finish it after he went to bed but I had to do it right then because he was so excited.  Once it was done, he wouldn't put it down and slept with it holding one of the ears in his little fist. It makes it all worth it.
